Participant numbers for both sailing training events and sailing days are limited, and places fill up quickly, so be sure to book early!

Who Can Do It?

Sailing is available to all members, with specific requirements applied to the Joey Section.

When Can I do This?

Most suitable during spring to early autumn, Day Trips and Weekends.

Sailing Skills Development Events

These sailing events are aimed at Scouts and Venturers (who should be accompanied by their Leaders). These events aim to a safe participant sailing qualification for all participants with some able to achieve a trained participant sailing qualification. Both weekends are held at the North Harbour Scout Water Base located at Gourlay Road, North Balgowlah. It is a residential event from Saturday 8:30am to Sunday 4:30pm.

Prerequisites

Participants must have a current canoe qualification (safe participant or trained participant).

Both weekends are a camp and participants bring their own food and gear for both weekends.

Sailing Days

These fun days introduce Cub Scouts and Scouts to the world of Sailing. Our qualified instructors will be on hand to introduce you and your youth members to the joys of sailing, skippering them on various sailing craft around North Harbour and Manly. The 3-hour sessions are held at North Harbour Scout Water Base, located at Gourlay Road, North Balgowlah.
 

Prerequisites

All participants must be able to swim 50 metres.

What Else Is On Offer:

Power Boating

A great Special Interest Area project. From recreation and fishing to providing safety boat for sailing and canoeing activities. 

Who Can Do It? 

Power Boating licence is available from scouts from age 12. There are special licence restrictions for people under age 16. 

When Can I do This? 

Anytime, most suitable during spring to early autumn, Day Trips and Weekends

  1. Submit and pay licence 

With your Boat licence and logbook, you will be able to obtain Safe Participant Power Boating 

To progress on your powerboating journey:   

Complete a Sailing Australia Powerboat Handling certificate along with TP core units and logbook will achieve Trained Participant  

With a Safety Boat Operator certificate along with the Guiding Adventure core units and logbook you will achieve Assistant Guide
