At the end of 2002, Turramurra Rover Crew marked the 70th anniversary of their original formation with a celebratory birthday party and reunion. Several hundred members have passed through the Turramurra Crew over the years.

The Crew has actually had several “lives” – first founded in 1932, it closed prior to the war and was reformed in 1946-1953 and again in 1965-1968. The current Crew has been operating continuously and very successfully since 1975, with a solid membership and busy activity program.

The celebration saw a reunion of around 50 past members of all ages, including Ian Bull of Wahroonga, a member of the original Crew in 1932. Ian later went on to be Group Leader at 1st Turramurra in the ’50s and ’60s. “Rovers comes at an important time in the transition to adulthood and can also be a valuable influence for younger Scouts. It’s great to see Turramurra Rovers still going strong and offering so much to the community after all these years,” he said, before joining youngest current Rover, Elissa Commins in cutting the Crew’s 70th birthday cake.

The current Rovers mounted a display of photos and other memorabilia, ran several activities for the many children of former Crew members who attended and also provided a great BBQ lunch.

Turramurra Rovers is one of the strongest of the 21 Crews in Sydney North, with a membership of around 20 and a full range of outdoor adventure, social and community service activities.
