SUMMARY:Safe Participant Abseil Course - Practical Day (ABS24F)
DESCRIPTION:This is the base-level course for participation in rockcraft activities and is required for vertical canyoning and caving. Attending this workshop will give you a great grounding for rock adventures and you can even earn you Stage 4 OAS Abseiling (However you must abseil on at least one other occasion before or after the course to complete the OAS requirements). \n\n\n\nThe course is suitable for Venturers\, Rovers\, and Leaders. \n\n\n\nThe theory night is held at Barra Brui Scout Hall and includes a mix of theory presentations and practical components (prussiking\, knots\, setting up abseil devices\, care of equipment). \n\n\n\nThe theory night registration is combined with the prac day for the same course number\, you do not need to register separately.  \n\n\n\nThe practical day is held at Wahroonga Rocks. Participants aim to complete 15 abseils on a variety of abseil devices as well as practising belaying skills\, and prussiking. The course includes a separate theory night at Barra Brui Scout Hall. \n\n\n\nRecommended Pre-reading:\n\n\n\n\nKnots (SP Section Only)\n\n\n\n\nDigital copies will be provided prior to the course if you don’t have access to Teams.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBring:\n\n\n\n\nSuitable Clothing.\n\n\n\nWater + Lunch.\n\n\n\nYour Prussiks.\n\n\n\nYour Workbook with theory questions completed.\n\n\n\nPrinted out logbook.\n\n\n\n\nTimes:\n\n\n\n\nArrive 8:30am and walk down to the rocks – map in your email.\n\n\n\nFinish approximately 4pm.\n\n\n\n\nYou will be:\n\n\n\n\nCompleting at least 10 abseils on different devices.\n\n\n\nTop Belay and catch a falling Guide.\n\n\n\nDo prussiking over an edge.\n\n\n\nGet assessed on your knots.\n\n\n\nGet your theory answers assessed.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n				Registrations for this event open on: 2026-06-01 07:00:00.\n				\n				Registrations closes by:  2026-09-04 17:00:00
