SUMMARY:Evening Rockcraft Workshop (REW26D)
DESCRIPTION:Monthly Rockcraft Skills workshop – open to anyone who has attended a TP/AG (Rigging & Rescue) course\, or Guides maintaining currency. Current Qual not required. This is a self driven workshop where we will cover what you need to work on toward your quals\, or what you want to practise/review. \n\n\n\nA great way to build your skills towards guide (or your OAS levels). Rescue workshops are also one of the ways you can demonstrate your rescue currency which is required for all guides\, and especially if you are going through requal. If you are a current guide this is also a good way to stop your rescue skills getting rusty. \n\n\n\nWhat to Bring\n\n\n\n\nA Head Torch\n\n\n\nYour Personal Abseil Gear (It is assumed you have your own gear\, if you do not please specify on Scout Event at least 24 hours beforehand)\n\n\n\n\nPlease let me know if you have any topics you specifically want to cover. \n\n\n\nThis year we are asking that all participants register on Scout Event. \n\n\ninvalid event id provided.

SUMMARY:Sirius Cup Regatta
DESCRIPTION:The Sirius Cup Regatta is a chance for Cubs\, Scouts\, Venturers\, and Leaders to get together with other Scouts at a camp based primarily around water activities. The Scout Groups camp on Balmoral Oval\, just a hop\, skip and a jump from the waters of Middle Harbour as a tent city comes to life from Friday afternoon. In the past years we have had Scouts from many distant places including interstate\, Lake Burley Griffin and Lake Tuggeranong both from the ACT\, Belmont North and 1st Woy Woy from up north\, Penrith from the west and Gerringong from down south. \n\n\n\nHistory \n\n\n\nThe Regatta is named after the oldest New South Wales Sea Scout headquarters in Mosman Bay which was formerly known as Port Sirius\, which was named after the HMS Sirius\, flagship of the First Fleet. The Regatta is the largest and oldest regatta on the Scout calendar and is now in its 72nd year. \n\n\n\nActivities \n\n\n\nThe main event on Saturday morning is the canoe regatta for the Scout\, Venturer\, and Rover sections (along with their leaders). Don’t worry if your Group doesn’t have canoes as we are running a pool system. If you have some plastic type canoes\, then bring them along and add to the pool. \n\n\n\nIn the afternoon the main events are the sailing races\, split into 5 divisions to separate the small from the large and the extra large. While the races are in action those not participating have some free time and can walk to Rocky Point and watch the sailing\, jump in for a swim at the Balmoral Baths (free admission) or use their own canoes. The Regatta has provided a slip ‘n’ slide for the landlubbers to use. If any one has some other great ideas for those left on the land please let the Regatta Coordinator know\, especially of you have some one who wants to help run the afternoon activities. Saturday evening is a time to sit around and chat with the other Scouts\, play some ball games on what is left of the oval or watch a movie on the oval (or 1st Balmoral Hall if the weather turns wet). \n\n\n\nSunday morning is all action with the Sirius Iron Man event kicking off (or running off) at 7:00am. The best placed Group overall in these events is awarded the Sirius Iron Group Trophy. This is followed by the rowing events and then at 8:45am it’s time for the Cub canoeing events. Similar to the Saturday morning events\, these are open to all Cub Scouts and their leaders. This is always a great event for the Scouts to watch or to even help their own Cub Pack. The second round of sailing takes place mid to late morning. \n\n\n\nFurther details – visit https://sydneynorthscouts.com/activities/activities-water/sirius-cup-regatta or email snr.siriuscup@nsw.scouts.com.au

SUMMARY:Abseil Rigging & Rescue Course - Practical Weekend (ABS26B)
DESCRIPTION:If you want to build on your skills and work towards being able to take other people out abseiling then this is the workshop for you. Learn how to set up abseils\, rig for rescue\, and get yourself and others out of difficulty. This covers aims to get you through the content of the Trained Participant and Assistant Guide levels of the VET qualifications to give you a solid base to build you abseil skills on. Participants can also use this course to cover items in their OAS levels 5\,6 & 7. We aim to also assist participants with the RPL of their Trained Participant Core. \n\n\n\nIt is expected that participants assist on a couple of Safe Participant Courses\, and attend followup workshops to fully achieve competency at a VET standard. \n\n\n\nRepeat Participation in the course is free. \n\n\n\nCourse Structure\n\n\n\nThe two theory nights are held at Barra Brui Scout Hall and includes a mix of theory presentations and practical components. These introduce you to the skills that you will then practise at an in hall practical day at Barra Brui\, followed by on Cliff Practical at Lindfield Rocks. \n\n\n\nThis is not an overnight course. \n\n\n\nThe practical days run from 8am to 5pm. \n\n\n\nParticipants should be prepared to do a bit of pre-reading and “homework” between theory sessions and before the practical to get the most out of the course (although you can still succeed without that). \n\n\n\nAssumed Knowledge\n\n\n\nThe course is suitable for Venturers\, Rovers\, and Leaders. \n\n\n\nThe course assumes completion of OAS Stage 4 or equivlant knowledge (at least 10 abseils accross two ocassions\, ability to prussik\, ability to operate a top belay). However we generally get a broad range of skill levels from people who have recently completed their Safe Participant/OAS 4 course right through to very experienced people who are getting up to speed on Scout’s NSW standards for rigging & rescue. \n\n\n\nRecomended Pre-Reading\n\n\n\nAdditional readings will be sent out a week before the course\, and after each practical session. \n\n\n\n\nKnotting Guide\n\n\n\nRigging Guide\n\n\n\ninvalid event id provided.
