Max Potential is a personal leadership program designed for young people aged 16-25 that runs over 22 weeks, and starts in the North Shore area on the 1st July 2010. Selected young people are matched with community leaders and work in a coaching system, having “one on one” chats to develop their leadership capacity. The positions are available on a scholarship basis and applications are open now. All costs are covered by Clubs NSW. Max Potential is a model that builds community engagement and participation through coaching youth in personal and role leadership. It aims to improve the capacity of the local area to create sustainable social change, and leadership aptitude for youth. Students explore 10 life principles (MAXIMISERS©) aimed at maximising their potential, particularly in respect to leadership capacity and capability. The program draws on leaders within the community, business, industry and schools to work as one-on-one coaches with the youth. Max Potential has been running in NSW for over 5 years, and is currently running at 16 sites across the state. Please see the website http://www.faafoundation.com.au/ for more details. Application forms and further details for the northside program have been circulated to all Crew Leaders and Rover Advisers. __________________________________________________________________________ EPPING'S CASINO NIGHT It’s back and it's Toga Time! 007 is out and 'Naughtius Maximus, Sillius Soddus and old mate Biggus Dickus are in! In this World Cup year, which Crew will take home the coveted and highly attractive Kup for 2010??!! __________________________________________________________________________ WRAP - NZ MOOT 2010 - HERO MOOT! Early 2010, Simon Milligan, Dave Langron and I threw the idea around of going to the NZ Moot over Easter. It was just an idea, with no real understanding of NZ Rovers. The idea quickly became a reality when the deadline to apply had already passed! A little bit of sweet talking was required; but we secured three spots! Before we knew it, we were booked into go with the Australian Contingent! It was only at this point we discovered that food, tents, transport and pre-Moot accommodation was all provided! All we had to do was organise our flights over there! It then became even sweeter when an offer of a "Post Moot Tour" was presented to us too! (How good is this!) Before we knew it; it was a few days before Easter and we were on a flight bound for Christchurch! (Sorry Dragonskin; might see you next year) The Moot Chief personally picked us up from the airport, drove us to a "Regional Rover Den" (a communal Den that any Rover Crew could use at any time) and left us to adventure! The Den itself was pretty sweet. Pool Table, heaps of couches, a (licenced) Bar, kitchen and heaps of other things to play with. More and more Aussies arrived, and the pre-Moot partying started! Over the next day and a half, groups explored Christchurch at their leisure. Some went on pub crawls, some went Geo-caching, some went sight-seeing, shopping, you name it! It was "free time" - and the Moot hadn't even started yet! Thursday evening, the Region Rover Den had about 80 Rovers from Australia and New Zealand all "waiting patiently" for the Moot to start! The shuttle buses arrived and the crowd rushed to be the "first load" to the Moot site! The Moot sSite was about 15min out of town, at a lovely Scout camp divided by a small creek. (Cold, very cold creek) Friday - Monday is all a bit of a blur! 180 Rovers (40 of them Aussies) were all being Heroes! I discovered quickly that New Zealand Rovers are very different to Australian Rovers. Smaller in numbers, but very passionate, committed to Service and extremely fun! Each Crew took 'Fancy Dress' very seriously, showing us Aussies how to use our imaginations! In a nutshell: Friday - Sporting / Round Robin during the day. "Inner Superheroes" in the Evening. Saturday - Offsite Activities (Tours)... I did the Wine Tour:) "Everyday Heroes" in the Evening. Sunday - Service Project (Extremely rewarding, us Aussies are better builders!)... "Sporting Heroes" and Formal Ball in the Evening! Monday - Recover! For Sydney North Rovers, imagine combining CRAP + Summer Moot + Service Project into one GIANT weekend! It was HUGE! Post Moot, Simon and Dave were lucky enough to get the time off work to say in NZ that extra (week!) longer! A group of Aussies went adventuring across the South Island, skydiving, bungy jumping, jetboat riding, sight-seeing, you name it!! Next Year, 2011, 69th Annual NZ Moot, "SMOOTH MOOT"! I'll be there, will you? Chill! I am the Rover Advisor with Sydney’s St George Rovers and will launch my third book of adventure directly aimed at boys aged 11-18 that involves Scouts, Venturers and Rovers at the end of this month. I realised after running Venturers for 35 years that the teens needed books they could relate to; were about themselves and their scouting experiences, were wholesome but also real life…hence I wrote Only The Brave Dare, CANYON and A Rite Of Passage. The first two books I wrote in the Year of the Scout with the third completed last month. The books involve Rovers training and looking after Venturers and even setting up their own national emergency rescue scheme to look after young people who face disaster in the wilds. Info has been circulated to all Crew Leaders and Rover Advisers. Rovers are invited to the book launch: Venue: St Francis Xavier's Church Hall, Arncliffe. Date: Wednesday 30th June 2010 Time: 7.00pm to 10pm Dress: Neat casual/Scout/Guide Uniform RSVP: Christopher on 02 9567 5946 or redraven01@optusnet.com.au by Sunday 20 June 2010. Thanks!
