This is the one annual region project where EVERY Rover from EVERY Crew is expected to give as much time as you can to service - third weekend in May every year! Full details have been provided to all Crew Leaders, but in summary: Saturday - All Rovers are to meet a Bicentennial Park at 10am in West Pymble (Lofberg Rd) and we will go to the work sites from there - this is in the backyard of Turramurra, Kisso and Lindfield Crews so no excuses! Please bring your Rover uniform shirt and scarf + work clothes (Crew t-shirt if you have one) as we will have the community BBQ at the end Dinner will be provided at 6pm but lunch needs to be brought by you! ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BRING AT LEAST GLOVES! Other gardening gear would be good. Sunday - Rovers are to meet the end of Beatty Street, Balgowlah Heights at 9am, I am organising a media event in the morning so please try to make it here as early as possible, ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BRING AT LEAST GLOVES! Any small saws, wheelbarrows and other gear would be great Really though I need numbers and am feeling slightly unloved - as at yesterday morning, only 3 Crew Leaders have gotten back from me so if the rest could please reply that would be great. In particular, we really need please on Saturday morning so if you Crew is tossing up on when they will be arriving please promote the Saturday 10am start option to all! "Why" you might ask... well the reason is we have two 10-15 people jobs in the morning and it is important we get enough people to give these a real good go. Remember it is this Saturday 10am -6pm at Bicentennial Park, Lofberg Rd, West Pymble and then Sunday is 9am -4pm at Middle Head National Park. Remember to bring gloves, sunscreen garden gear and a desire to clean up this world!! Look forward to seeing you all there. Please call me if you have any questions. We hope to have some of their impressions in a future issue. In the meantime, if you want a taste of what the NZ Moot was like, perhaps to consider going next year, check out the article and slide show at http://www.newswire.co.nz/2010/04/rover-award/ __________________________________________________________________________ MUDBASH 2010 TICKETS You may have seen on emails or websites from Victoria that Mudbash 2010 presold tickets and the chance to save $20 closed yesterday. Well... the good people in Victoria have extended the presold discount for all interstate Rovers, so you can get the presold price of $50 up until the event and also at the gate. Mudbash is on the June long weekend, at Mafeking Rover Park near Yea. See all the event details at http://www.mudbash.com Note, any NSW Rover planning to attend MUST be part of the NSW Contingent. Sleep Point Co-ordinator Hugh Kingdom from Kissing Point Rovers gives the lowdown on this year's event.... About 6-8 of us headed down on the morning of Thursday April 29 to set up the Sleep Point. We started with the bigger items and went from there moving toilets and arranging the site for ourselves and for the Scouts coming to the site. With most things completed we headed off to the pub for a great meal with about 12 people - as always the food was great. We headed back and for some they settled in and others put some war stories around. Friday came and as always more things to do and set up for the Scouts, some went and chopped fire wood, some dug holes into the ground for power leads and water and others assisted with cooking meals and other essential work – by 4pm the site was ready for the Scouts arrival. They started to arrive around 1030 and last bus set off around 1130-1200. We ensured that the 181 Scouts set up their tents correctly and put all their gear inside the tent or found appropriate cover as the weather looked as if it was going to set in (it didn’t). With all this, we still pulled many Scouts out of their tents to fix them up - this happened until our security (Brush Park Rovers) took over around 1.30am - with many Scouts now asleep this job was a cold night - thanks guys. Wakeup was... well let's say 6am after advising PLs and APLs that they wake me up I wake them, with many tired Scouts awakening to the light sound of an air raid siren - many not impressed! We esured that the sites were clean and Scouts weighed in and made sure that all gear was in their bag. We set them off into the forest at 8am after breakfast. After the mad rush we sat for a little time then started to plan for the next 12 hours With Glyn (Turramurra Rovers) and the boys setting up the crate stacking madly with many ropes and assistants and many setting out on their way out for more wood, I had my first chance to go and have a look at some of the activities. The ideas for their activities were great, making the Scouts think about what they had to do, knots and many other tasks to complete. With a few interruptions and First Aid required this made the Saturday interesting, to say the least. Rovers completed all the tasks required and split the logs up into smaller pieces to ensure that the fires could be great for cooking. Around 330 Scouts started to fall in to Sleep Point 6, with only one injury, and not too many issues. We started the crate stacking and the kids started a huge game of tip (in the dark). This kept most Scouts busy enough. Again had another PL and APL’s meeting and after this most kids settled in for dinner and went to bed. Again with the help of Dave and Jen a spit was on the menu, with mouths watering and every now and then a small peice for taste testing (great) dinner was on for the Rovers. We catered for 37 people this weekend. With all this in place and most Scouts in bed we moved on the remaining few that can’t sleep and gave them a promise that they would be the first woken in the morning. Now all Scouts have departed the fires and headed to bed, we gave a few more looks over the site and left the site to the security (Brush Park again). Then all the remaining Rovers talked and decided to find some Rover things to do... like take the Scout Hike banner. This somehow was successful and in the morning a strange sign was been erected on to Sam’s truck. Again with my promise of waking the few that didn’t want to go to bed we woke all Scouts and again with the air raid siren we ensured that all the site we clean and had the Scouts ready to sign out and on to the last fun-filled day. With many now very tired and a few very cold we ensured that all Scouts had an enjoyable time and sent them on their merry way. Then the fun bit... packing up the site with a few issues of sunlight we dried all gear and started pulling gear down and packing it up. This took to about 330pm when we had finished and were ready to leave the forest. Thanks to Sam for taking the gear to Barri Brui and packing it up with Pete, Paul, Jen and others, without the use of his dad's truck this would not of been such a great success. I would like to thank all who were involved and helped out - Turramurra, Kissing Point, Berowra, Brush Park, Platabeen, Normanhurst, Epping and Forest Crews and Venturers from Platabeen. This weekend was a great success without many issues and is still giving a great name for Rovers to the Venturers and Scouts. Rovers have successfully run Sleep Point 6 for six years and hoping to run it for many more, but require still more assistance. We had 37 people to run three activities, security and the Sleep Point staff. As usual the Rovers held themselves to a professional level with positive feedback from many. With this activity, we are having a very positive influence on the Region Scout section team.
