Please pass on heartfelt thanks from at least 1,000 struggling people in Sydney and Wesley Mission for all the cans that were collected. While last year’s can collection supplied the organisation with around enough food for 6-8 months this year more than doubling meant that an entire years supply has been received. It was great to see so many people at the event on November 7th, plus even more have been standing around supermarkets and door knocking through Sydney over the last couple of months. Of the 11,000 cans collected Sydney North supplied 8,628, or almost 80%! So great work all round. The final totals of each Sydney North Crew are as follows. 1. Turramurra – 1600 2. Brush Park – 1200 3. Forest – 1024 4. Mt Colah / Mt Kuring-Gai - 1000 5. Kissing Point – 972 6. Lindfield – 766 7. Epping – 726 8. Normanhurst – 585 9. Berowra – 485 10. Mona Vale – 150 11. Garigal – 120 Congratulations to Turramurra, Brush Park, Forest Mt Colah / Mt Kuring-Gai, for making the 1,000 can target - you are truly promoting the core Rovering ideal of service. Also a special mention to Berowra who still managed to deliver cans despite completing service for the Berowra Rotary Art Show on the same weekend. Great work Lindfield for getting your Scout Troop involved in the can collected and thanks Normo for allowing me to ransom off one of your members for 30 more cans! However, as well as all this praise it is important to remember that Wesley Mission will be looking for more cans next year. We failed to reach our own target of 10,000 cans as a Region but I am sure we can do it next year. If anyone has any suggestions on how we can improve the event please email me. I am currently looking into delivering the cans on a separate day so that all Rovers can complete the march. Once again thanks for all getting behind and supporting this event. Held at Government House in Sydney, we need around 45 Rovers to come along and make New Year's Eve, between 1pm and 10pm very special for a number of disadvantaged children. You will be able to watch the 9pm fireworks from one of the best spots in Sydney and then be able to move on to other New Year's celebrations well in time for midnight. If your Crew hasn't given service to this very worthwhile event before, make this year the one - you'll come away feeling warm and fuzzy and you'll be hooked! To register your interest, contact Aaron Smith (RRC Service Co-ordinator) at rrc.service@sydneynorthscouts.com or on 0432 923 774. __________________________________________________________________________ LESS THAN 2 WEEKS 'TIL CRAP CRAP - Sydney North's "Christmas Rover Annual Party" - is only 2 weeks away so have you got your Ticket? If not call Dave on 0410 343 504 or email CRAP@eppingrovers.com. Pre-paid tickets are only $15.00 so get your Crew's now! All pre-paid ticket purchases go into the draw for a lucky door prize. The final day to purchase Pre-Paid tickets will be Tuesday 24th November - after that you can purchase tickets at the door for $20.00 Just to jog your memory, CRAP is on Saturday the 28th November at Epping Scout Hall, 6 Essex Street Epping. The theme is "Nintendo" so come dressed as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, Donkey Kong or any of your favourite Nintendo characters. There are prizes for best dressed male, female and Crew! We have some awesome prizes lined up - just a few of them include: • Tool Kit • Power Tools • Coleman Outdoor Gear • MP3 Speaker Kits • Overnight Bags We will also be presenting the ROSCARS, Sydney North’s Annual Rovering Awards. Some people have asked if there is overnight accommodation available, the answer to this question is No, but the hall is only a 5 min walk (or stumble) from Epping Station. We are encouraging individuals, or Crews to get together and purchase a present to donate to underprivileged children. Please wrap up the present and label it with suitable age and boy or girl. Place it under the CRAP Giving Tree and we will donate it to charity on your behalf. So once again call Dave on 0410 343 504 to get tickets or email CRAP@eppingrovers.com If you're a Rover, then you need to be at CRAP! Cheers! And before you think that your BRC President has lost it, I say this for a reason!! We all need to be careful about what sort of pictures we post up on the web, whether it be Facebook, Myspace, Photobucket, Crew websites etc etc. and to make sure that all event pictures are in good taste and nature. So if you have ever made a gallery or intend to with titles of "Rovers" or "such and such a Moot" or "Scouting" or the pictures can be linked back to the Scouting Movement in any way , please make sure these photos are harmless and won't hurt our awesome Movement in any way!!! I know you guys will understand and appreciate where I am coming from on this. if you have any questions on this whatsoever, please send me a line at president@nswrovers.com Matthew Lee NSW BRC President __________________________________________________________________________ JAMBOREE - ROVER HELP NEEDED Several offsite activities for the upcoming Australian Jamboree need further support. Please promote these requests for help to your Crew.... SERVICE OPPORTUNITY: AJ2010 SYDNEY CITY TOUR My name is Andrew Campbell and I am the Deputy Manager of the City Tour for the upcoming Jamboree. We are in desperate need of staff members to work in Sydney on a wide game. We thought this was a great opportunity for Rovers to promote their section to Scouts as well as adding it to your list of major service activities completed by the BRC. There is no fee to assist on this activity unlike the other Jamboree events and as it is in the city this makes it easier to use public transport to and from the activity for all staff. Please find below some basic infomation about the activity, as we are trying to avoid it leaking to the participants. We will be able to provide more details to all volunteers prior to the event. We were hoping that each RRC may be able to organise a roster to manage an area each. Activity Description: Wide Game in the City involving patrol team work to complete tasks while racing around Sydney to solve a final puzzle. Staff Required: - Sector Team Leaders to manage up to 30 staff. - IT staff to monitor a computer network that controls the activity. - Communications Personnel to monitor radio network communications. - Transport staff to act as greeters as participants arrive and load buses for departure. - Admin staff to assist with paperwork and office co-ordination. - Logistics staff to help with equipment movement. - Border staff to ensure Scouts do not leave the game area. Staff can assist for various times on various days eg. before they start work each day they can help move equipment to each location or help pack up after work. Full-time day workers are also very much appreciated. Dates of Operation: 5th to the 13th of January 2010 (no activities will occur on the 9th of January) Times of Operation: The activity will operate from 9:30am till 3:00pm. Staff are required 6am till 6pm (staff are not expected to work this whole time unless they wish to do so). Uniform and Food: All volunteers should be wearing a Scout shirt or uniform and will be provided a reflective vest. Please bring a hat and drink bottle. No food will be provided to day staff as this is only available to those that wish to register and pay a Jamboree Day Worker fee. Groups of volunteers may wish to organise catering together. Parking: All volunteers are asked to use public transport. If you wish to drive in their are parking areas available. All transport is at your own expense. Hope you can help with this matter, please call me or my wife Stacy if you wish to discuss the matter further on 0427 782 297.
