Bushcare and Water Bug SurveyScouts and Leaders attended a Bushcare day at Ingleside Scout Camp as part of the Environment program being conducted at the Camp.
Officers from Landcare covered topics such as preventing erosion from storm water, recycling, composting and bush regeneration. There were practical learning sessions followed by continuing regeneration work in an area of native bush land that had been invaded by noxious weeds.
In the afternoon Scouts and Leaders, helped by Coastal Environment Centre staff, participated in the Spring Water Bug Survey. Water Bugs were collected and counted from Wirreanda Creek and Little Wirreanda Creek. The quality of water was also measured. It was interesting the difference in results between the creeks. We can also compare results with the survey taken in Autumn.
This survey is a State wide program, conducted by the Department of Infrastructure Planning and Natural Resources, held in Spring and Autumn and can be conducted at any site in N.S.W. more information is available at www.bugsurvey.nsw.gov.au.
