Wallumetta Fellowship Reborn!

Wallumetta Fellowship Reborn!

< Back to Wallumetta Scout Fellowship

Original article was published in the May 2012 edition of the Sydney North Region Compass magazine.

Wallumetta first started operating in 1998, as Sydney North's "Scout Fellowship, with an ex- Rover flavour".  It grew and became quite active, with service to the community and Scouting, as well as outdoor adventure activities.  Membership waned during the noughties, however a handful of founding members kept Wallumetta on "simmer", waiting for the time when a new group with the enthusiasm and motivation to resurrect it emerged.

This has happened just recently, thanks largely to the efforts of Jordan Hodgson, our new Fellowship Chairperson, with 13 new members invested in one meeting - the majority of which completed their Rovering careers within the past 5 or so years. This brings the complement of Fellowships in the area to 3, alongside the well-established Hornsby and North Harbour Water Base (Balgowlah) groups.

The primary aims of a Fellowship is to retain members that would otherwise be lost to Scouting, and to attract new members who have not yet been involved.  The group is structured similarly to a Rover Crew, with an elected chairperson and officers, however we have chosen to meet monthly instead of weekly.  This is aimed at providing a balance between our own social Scouting involvement and other commitments such as Leadership in the youth sections.

So far we have a keen common interest in outdoor pursuits such as rockcraft and 4WDing, as well as regular camping trips and weekends away.

To contact the Wallumetta Fellowship, contact the Region office, visit our Facebook Fan Page or if you are a Rover fast approaching Booting age, speak to Jasebo Smith (our Rover Council Delegate) at the next Region Rover Council (RRC) meeting.

Anyone over the age of 26 is welcome, Scouting experience or not, and we particularly encourage ex-Rovers to reconnect and get involved once again.

PR Officer, Wallumetta Scout Fellowship (2012-13)
