Courses
The Region provides Flat Water Canoeing courses that cater for everyone from Level 1 to Instructor. These courses are provided in two formats - just choose the format that suits and interests you the best. As a pre-requisite, all participants must be able to swim 50 metres.
Single Weekend Canoe Courses
These weekends cater for Scouts, Venturers, Rovers and Leaders. Over the weekend, participants will take part in 8 hours of paddling, stroke technique, a mini-expedition, rescues, capsize drills but most importantly, they'll have a fantastic weekend in the water! Usually canoeing qualifications up to Level 2 are achievable on these courses.
It is preferable for participants to supply canoes, however, canoes can be provided on request to the Course Leader prior to the weekend.
Double Weekend Canoe Courses (North Harbour Water Base)
These double weekend courses are aimed at Scouts and Venturers (who can be accompanied by their Leaders). These courses aim to a Level 2 canoe qualification, for all participants with some able to achieve a Level 3 canoe qualification. The first weekend is held at Manly Dam and covers paddling, stroke technique, rescues, and capsize drills with the second weekend being a Canoe Camp at Lake Macquarie. Participants bring their own lunch for each day of the first weekend, with catering for the second weekend performed on a "Patrol" basis. These courses cost $50 per participant.
