Congratulations Matt and Samuel

Matt Ferguson and Samuel Pritchard from the 1st Forestville Scout Troop were presented with The Australian Scout Medallion and Adventurer Cord on Thursday 23rd June 2011.  The Adventurer Cords were presented by Christine Ferguson (SL) and The Australian Scout Medallions were presented by Charles Turner, Regional Commissioner Scouts, in a special ceremony to mark the occasion.

There is nothing more rewarding in Scouting than to see a youth member achieve their goal, especially one that they have been working towards for a long time. The boys decided at the last Jamboree that they wanted The Australian Scout Medallion and motivated each other all the way. This is a huge achievement by both boys and one they are very proud of.

Samuel led a 93km bike hike around Wyong for his Adventurer Cord Hike and organised the Group Christmas Party for his Scout Medallion. He organised a raffle as part of the evening to raise funds for World Vision.

Matt led a 94km bike hike around Windsor, doing this with 7 stitches in his knee. He had planned everything for so long that he wasn’t going to cancel. It was hard work, but he was thrilled to reach the finish line. Matt organised a Trivia Night for his Scout Medallion, raising more than $500 for The Children’s Hospital.

The Scout Troop now has 3 Scout Medallions on the Honour Board, the first one being 6 years ago. The first recipient, Robert Brown, was on parade with the boys as part of this special occasion.

Special congratulations must go to Matt Ferguson for achieving The Australian Scout Medallion at such a young age. The Honour Board displays Matt’s age beside his name in the hope that it will inspire others too. It is very rare to have someone earn it at 13 and to have the Scout Medallion in the Troop for more than 12 months!

Congratulations boys on your achievement! You are great role models to the youth of 1st Forestville and we all salute you!
