CavingFor those who love the thrill of underground adventures, caving is the activity for you!Caving is the sport of exploring naturally formed caves, above and below ground, both horizontal (walked or crawled through) and vertical (involving abseiling and ladder climbing). Who Can Do It?Caving varies in degree of difficulty and is available to members of the Movement from 8 years of age. It is most popular in the Venturer and Rover SectionsWhen Can I Do This? (Season, Day, Night, Weekend).All year round, Day trips, Weekends.Qualifications RequiredActivity must be under the control of a Caving Level 3 (Instructor) or (where participants have a Caver Level 1 qualification) a Caving Level 2 (Leader).CoursesThe Caving Team runs 2 training trips a year. Caving weekends are held at Bungonia or Wee Jasper and you can get a caving qualification at the end of a weekend of fun.Course PrerequisitesCaver Level 1 (Basic)Venturer age or older;Hold a current Level 1 Abseil Certificate. Caver Level 2 (Leader)Hold a current Caver Level 1 Certificate;Hold a current Level 2 Abseil Certificate; Hold a current Apply First Aid Certificate HLTFA301B. Caver Level 3 (Instructor)Those people interested in this level of qualification should contact the Caving coordinator (see below).
CostCaving courses cost $40 per participant plus camping fees if applicable. An equipment hire fee will apply to other caving activities where Region equipment is usedAll A1 forms for these courses should be sent tothe Region Office together with course fee before the closing date.
