Water Activities Policy
All Water Activities require participants to wear enclosed footwear and Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs), in accordance with the NSW Branch Water Policy. Participants should also be able to swim 50 metres. Additional and differing policies apply to Scuba Diving.

Water Activities also includes windsurfing, power boating, and rowing.

Canoeing:

Who can do it?

Canoeing is available to all members, with specific requirements applied to the Joey Section.

When can I do this?

Most suitable during spring to early autumn, meeting nights (in daylight) day trips and weekends.

Single weekend canoe course:

These cater for Scouts, Venturers, Rovers and Leaders. Qualifications up to Level 2 are achievable on these courses. Participants usually provide their own canoes, however canoes can be provided by request to the Course Leader prior to the weekend course.

Group Based weekend courses can also be arranged on demand.

Double weekend canoe course:

These canoe courses are aimed at Scouts and Venturers (who can be accompanied by Leaders). These courses aim to gain a Level 2 canoe qualification for all participants with some able to achieve a Level 3 canoe qualification. Weekend 1 is at Manly Dam and weekend 2 is a camp at Lake Macquarie.

Cub Scout Courses:

The Cub Scout course aims to achieve a Level 1 canoe qualification. This is a one day course at Narrabeen Lakes. ( 8.30am to 4.30pm )

Water Activities Centres

There are two Scout water activities centres that are conveniently located on Sydney's North Shore.

The North Harbour Scout Water Base is Sydney North Region's water base. The base coordinates Region canoeing and sailing activities and courses.

The Water Activities Centre at Woolwich is run by NSW Branch, and can provide specialised training in canoeing, sailing, rowing, and power boating.
