Scout Leadership Courses

The aim of this course is to provide suitable leadership skills for Scouts. The course is organised and run on the Patrol System.

Courses are run throughout the year and details of the courses planned for the rest of the year are listed at the end of this page. Most of the Courses commence on a Saturday around 1pm and finish mid-afternoon on Sunday, although some vary and you should check the exact details on the Calendar or with the Region Office.

Applications must be made on the correct form (a copy can be downloaded from this page), supported by your Scout Leader and received by the Region Office with a cheque payable to Scouts Australia by the closing date.

Only in special circumstances will a Scout younger than 12 years old be accepted on the Course. Special circumstances should be discussed by your Scout Leader with the Course Leader.

The cost of the course is generally $25 per Scout. This covers all course materials, accommodation (if applicable) and meals. For residential courses, the cost will generally be $35.00 as it includes overnight accomodation and additional meals. This is an approved training course and the cost would normally be paid by your Group.

Sessions on the Course include:
  • Understanding the Patrol System and the Scout Award Scheme
  • Leadership
  • Problem Solving and Task Management
  • Citizenship
  • Planning/Programming

Course numbers are limited to an absolute maximum of 24 Scouts and places will be allocated in order of receipt of application forms AND payment.

Note: We cannot usually accept any more than 4 Scouts from the same Troop on any course.

It is expected that at least one Leader from your Scout Troop will be available to assist at the course you are attending, either as an instructor or assisting in an administrative role.
